Overview

BBVA is seeking an experienced and visionary senior professional to establish and lead its Asia Regional Energy & Utilities franchise within the Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB) division. This newly created role aims to bring sector specialization, strategic insight, and senior-level coverage to Energy & Utilities clients across Asia, supporting BBVA’s continued expansion in the region.

Based in either Hong Kong or Singapore, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing BBVA’s regional Energy & Utilities strategy, deepening and broadening client relationships with leading Asian Energy & Utilities corporates, power generation companies, renewable energy developers, utility distributors, oil & gas players, and related industry partners. The role combines strategic sector leadership, business development, and senior client coverage, working closely with global Energy team and Asia multisector Relationship Managers to deliver BBVA’s full suite of investment banking, capital markets, financing, and sustainability-led solutions.

Key Responsibilities

1. Sector & Client Coverage Leadership

• Lead BBVA’sEnergy & Utilities coverage strategy across Asia, with responsibility for key client relationships in the power, utilities, and oil & gas sectors.

• Identify, prioritize, and develop long-term strategic relationships withtop-tier regional and global Energy & Utilities clients headquartered or active in Asia.

• Act as thesenior sector advisor to clients, bringing insights on trends such as energy transition, decarbonization, smart grids, renewable energy financing, power infrastructure, and new energy technologies.

• Ensure coordinated and seamless client service by collaborating closely with global and regional coverage teams, product partners, and country managers.

2. Business Development & Strategy

• Driverevenue growth and wallet share expansion by originating high-value opportunities across loans, DCM, ECM, M&A advisory, structured finance, transaction banking, sustainable finance, and risk management solutions.

• Develop and execute tailoredEnergy & Utilities sector coverage strategies, leveraging BBVA’s global capabilities, thought leadership, and balance sheet strength.

• Lead the preparation and delivery ofsector-driven pitches, strategic dialogues, and board-level presentations.

• Build a strong understanding of clients’ financials, business models, industry position, capital needs, and strategic priorities; articulate these clearly to internal partners and risk teams.

3. Regional Leadership & Team Development

• Establish and lead theAsia Energy & Utilities coverage function, with responsibility for talent development as the franchise grows.

• Mentor and guide relationship managers and junior bankers, supporting the development of sector knowledge and client management best practices.

• Promote a culture ofcollaboration, innovation, and risk discipline across teams & geographies.

• Serve as a senior representative of the Energy & Utilities franchise in global forums, ensuring alignment between Asia and BBVA’s global sector priorities.

Key Requirements

Professional Experience

• Minimum15 years of experience in CIB withdeep specialization in the Energy & Utilities sector.

• Demonstrated track record of originating and executingcomplex, cross-border transactions across multiple banking products.

• Strong network of senior relationships acrosspower, utilities, renewable energy, oil & gas, or related subsectors.

• Experience operating in aregional or global platform; strong familiarity with Asian financial markets, regulatory environments, and local business cultures.

• Prior experience based in or covering Asia is strongly preferred.

Skills & Competencies

• Exceptionalsector expertise, commercial acumen, and strategic thinking.

• Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation abilities, capable of engagingC-suite and board-level stakeholders.

• Leadership presence, with demonstrated capability to build teams, influence global stakeholders, and drive strategic change.

• Fluency inEnglish is essential.

• Entrepreneurial mindset with high energy, integrity, and commitment to BBVA’s values and risk culture.
