Business System Analyst (SAP Technical Business Analyst)

About the Role

This is an on-site contract role supporting a large-scale SAP S/4HANA transformation program at a leading energy infrastructure organization. The SAP Technical Business Analyst works alongside the program Business Lead and Solution and Technical Leads to translate business needs into clear, traceable requirements and solution designs across functional, technical, data, security, and vendor teams. The role owns key governance artifacts, facilitates design workshops, supports test readiness, and escalates risks, scope gaps, and cross-workstream dependencies that could affect timelines, compliance, or operational readiness.

The ideal candidate brings at least six years of experience as a Business Analyst or Technical Business Analyst on large integrated enterprise programs, ideally ERP transformations, and has working knowledge of SAP S/4HANA capabilities, standard process concepts, and controls considerations such as segregation of duties and audit evidence. You are equally comfortable producing governance-ready documentation and sitting in a room with stakeholders to drive decisions, resolve ambiguity, and move things forward. A structured, detail-oriented approach and strong facilitation skills are essential in this regulated, stage-gate environment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Elicit, analyze, and document business and technical requirements covering SAP S/4HANA capabilities, integrations, reporting, data, security roles, and control objectives.
2. Facilitate workshops to define current and future processes, capture decisions, assumptions, open questions, and dependencies, and maintain full traceability from requirement through to solution and test evidence.
3. Decompose requirements into user stories or detailed requirement specifications with clear acceptance criteria, and support backlog refinement, scope management, and change control.
4. Perform impact assessments for change requests across process, data, integrations, security, testing, and cutover dimensions, supporting prioritization and formal decisioning.
5. Review solution designs with functional and technical teams to confirm alignment to requirements, controls, and non-functional needs, and support developers and configurators with clear intent, edge cases, and expected outcomes.
6. Translate requirements into test scenarios and expected results, support defect triage by clarifying intent and reproducing issues with evidence, and enable test readiness across SIT and UAT.
7. Produce governance-ready reporting on requirement status, open decisions, risks and issues, and readiness impacts, maintaining audit-ready artifacts in the controlled repository.
8. Coordinate across the System Integrator, Project Manager, IS Business Analysts, and Business Leads to align scope, milestones, traceability standards, and sign-off processes.

Required Skills & Experience

• 6 or more years of experience as a Business Analyst or Technical Business Analyst on large integrated enterprise programs; ERP transformation experience strongly preferred
• Proven capability in requirements elicitation, analysis, documentation, and stakeholder facilitation, including translating business outcome requirements into testable criteria
• Experience working across functional and technical teams to define integrations, data, reporting, and non-functional needs such as performance, security, and auditability
• Working knowledge of SAP S/4HANA capabilities and standard process concepts, with the ability to engage meaningfully in solution discussions and assess upstream and downstream impacts
• Awareness of controls and governance considerations including segregation of duties, approval design, and audit evidence, and how they influence requirements and design
• Skilled in producing high-quality artifacts: process maps, requirements specifications, user stories, acceptance criteria, decision logs, and RAID and dependency tracking
• Ability to operate within stage-gate and delivery governance frameworks, supporting formal sign-offs and maintaining audit-ready documentation in controlled repositories
• Experience with enterprise test and defect tools such as SAP Cloud ALM, Azure DevOps, or equivalent
• Strong facilitation and negotiation skills to resolve ambiguities, drive decisions, and balance scope, risk, and delivery constraints
• University degree in Business, Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
• Must have valid right to work in Canada

Preferred Skills

• Familiarity with SAP delivery artifacts including process design, configuration rationale, and transport strategy, and how they translate into test design and evidence
• Experience designing and communicating quality dashboards covering coverage, pass rates, defect aging and burn-down, severity mix, and readiness risks for governance
