
Geotechnical Field Technician
The Opportunity:

DS is currently seeking a Materials Inspection & Testing Engineering Technician to support projects in the Ottawa area. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced field technician looking to further develop their career within a dynamic and growing engineering consulting environment. Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct field inspection and testing services for civil construction and infrastructure projects.
- Perform compaction testing of soils and asphalt using nuclear density gauges.
- Carry out concrete testing and inspection in accordance with applicable standards.
- Conduct subgrade soil evaluations and field observations.
- Collect material samples and complete field documentation and reporting.
- Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
- Coordinate with project managers, contractors, and clients regarding field observations and testing results.
- Maintain accurate daily reports, testing records, and laboratory documentation.
- Ensure all workplace health and safety procedures are followed at all times.
- Provide support for additional field, laboratory, and office activities as required.

Key Qualifications, Skills & Education:
- Civil Engineering Technician/Technology diploma or related education preferred.
- 3–5 years of experience in materials inspection and testing or geotechnical field services.
- CCIL certification for concrete is strongly preferred.
- Experience performing soil and asphalt compaction testing using nuclear density gauges.
- Experience with concrete testing, asphalt testing, and subgrade soil evaluations.
- Previous experience working on civil, municipal, or infrastructure construction projects preferred.
- Strong understanding of field testing procedures, documentation, and quality standards.
- Valid Ontario G-Class Driver’s License with access to a reliable vehicle.
- Willingness to travel within the Ottawa region and surrounding areas.
- Ability to work flexible hours in a fast-paced field environment.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Strong communication, organizational, and report-writing skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and related industry software.
