The Blockchain & Climate Institute (BCI) is an international volunteer-led nonprofit organization advancing the use of blockchain and emerging technologies in support of global climate action. With more than 200 professionals across 30+ countries, BCI collaborates with UN bodies, national governments, and international standard-setting organizations to develop technical guidance, policy frameworks, and capacity-building programs.Â
TheHead of Communications is the senior-most communications position at BCI, responsible for shaping the organisation’s global public profile, narrative authority, and messaging strategy across platforms. This role oversees communications planning, media engagement, editorial content, and digital storytelling, while aligning all outreach with BCI’s mission and multilateral policy objectives.Â
The ideal candidate is a strategic storyteller with a journalist’s instinct, a diplomat’s precision, and a leader’s clarity. This person is expected to stay ahead of international climate trends, identify moments of influence, and lead a team of communications volunteers in executing a dynamic, policy-aligned strategy.Â
Key responsibilities:
Strategic LeadershipÂ
- Develop and execute BCI’s global communications strategy, aligned with institutional goalsÂ
- Advise the Director-General and senior leadership on message development and positioningÂ
- Serve as the final approver for all public-facing messaging, tone, and media framingÂ
- Elevate BCI’s influence in public discourse, policy conversations, and the climate-tech spaceÂ

Editorial OversightÂ
- Manage communications leads across PR, media, editorial, social, and design functionsÂ
- Oversee the BCI News Service and official editorial calendarÂ
- Lead high-level publications, policy briefs, and strategic content developmentÂ
- Ensure consistency and clarity across all institutional materialsÂ

Institutional ReputationÂ
- Guide high-profile media engagements, event communications, and COP-related coverageÂ
- Frame the organisation’s voice as a credible contributor to international dialogues on climate innovationÂ
Team ManagementÂ
- Supervise and mentor PR officers, writers, designers, and platform coordinators Â
- Establish clear workflows, approval processes, and content standardsÂ
- Foster collaboration across teams and ensure timely delivery of all communications outputsÂ

Essential FunctionsÂ
- Own the global comms strategyÂ
- Advise senior leadership and the Director-General on messagingÂ
- Lead high-level media engagements and flagship reportsÂ
- Manage team leads across PR, editorial, social, and designÂ
- Approve or sets media angles for all external messagingÂ
- Align content with global policy developments and multilateral diplomacyÂ
- Build institutional influence and oversees public affairs alignmentÂ
- Frame the organisation’s identity and thought leadershipÂ
- Proven experience leading communications teamsÂ
- Expertise in shaping narratives across traditional and digital media platformsÂ
- Strong media relationships, with experience managing public statements and op-edsÂ
- Knowledge of global climate policy, digital technologies, and multilateral engagement preferredÂ
- Excellent writing, editing, and content strategy skillsÂ
- Ability to manage remote teams and collaborate across time zonesÂ

Section A: Verbal and Numerical Reasoning (20 multiple-choice questions)
Section B: Situation Judgement Test (20 multiple-choice questions)
Section C: In-Tray Exercise (An open-ended assessment relevant to the duties of the role)
Candidates who pass all three sections will be invited to attend a phone screening, first interview, and final interview online.
