With general oversight from Lead of Pre-Analytic and the Supervisor of Laboratory Operationsand in collaboration with the laboratory operations team, the SpecimenAccessioner will be responsible forreceipt, tracking,
andentering data into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)/Operation metrics, ensuring chain of custody. TheSpecimenAccessioner position includes functions such as matching patient information, scanning documents, and interdepartmental communication. These activities will be performed under CLIA/CAP regulations and will directlyimpact human health and thus must meet the highest possible standards for quality and integrity.Â
Key Responsibilities
This roleis responsible for the efficient and quality execution of specimen accessioning andLIMS/Operation metricsdata entry for the Laboratory. This includes working with theLead of Pre-Analytic and the Supervisor of Laboratory Operationsto maintain all documentation required for operation under CLIA/CAP certification, including review and minor editing of standard operation procedures as necessary and use of sample tracking systems in accordance with the SOPs.Â
- Receive incoming specimens to ensure proper transport and specimen integrityÂ
- Verify specimen information such as patient identification and test ordersÂ
- Accurately and efficiently enter patient data and specimen information into the LIMS/operation metricsÂ
- Label specimens accurately according to the SOPsÂ
- Perform data entrypertaining to laboratory operations and qualityÂ
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of thelaboratory areaÂ
- Assist withresolving accessioning issues to include, but not limited to, test requisition discrepancies, missing information, etc. Â
- Communicate with Customer Service to escalate and resolve anyspecimen accessioning related issuesÂ
- Adhere to and uphold all applicable federal and state compliance regulations as well as Company’s compliance policies and procedures, accrediting agencypolicies and proceduresÂ
- Additional tasks as delegated by theLead of Pre-Analytic and the Supervisor of Laboratory OperationsÂ
Minimum Qualifications
Education and ExperienceÂ
- Associate's degreeÂ
- 1+ years of experience equivalent to an Accessioning Technician preferredÂ
Required Knowledge
- Medical background preferred which includes medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory Â
- Must be able to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detailÂ
- Ability to work independentlyÂ
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skillsÂ
- Basic computer skills andproficiency in data entryÂ
