GENERAL FUNCTIONS

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. TheBefore and After School, 4K Wrap and Camp Director is responsible for the development and implementation of high-quality Before and After School Enrichment and Wrap Care programming as directed by the branch executive. Responsibilities include the implementation and facilitation of innovative curriculum and activities, as well as supervision and development of employees to ensure program outcomes are consistently achieved. Typical work week may include early morning, late afternoon, weeknights, and occasional weekend events.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Responsibilities for this position are determined by school year and summer seasons; during the school year oversees Y BASE/Wrap Care and during the summer, serves in a camp leadership role. 
  2. Hires, trains, develops, schedules, and directs staff and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate and develop staff and achieve goals.
  3. Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. 
  4. Assists in monitoring program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
  5. In collaboration with leadership staff, create and maintain Y BASE lesson plans and activities.
  6. Works cooperatively with assigned school district and adheres to Y BASE program directives.
  7. Compiles program statistics.  Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of participation in programs. 
  8. Monitors daily program operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
  9. Secures and monitors transportation for field trips.
  10. Purchases and maintains supplies for all program activities.
  11. Maintain accurate staff and child records at all times.
  12. Coordinates use of facilities for program activities and events.
  13. Assists in marketing and distribution of program information, organizes and schedules program registrations.
  14. Assists in YMCA fundraising activities and special events including Annual Support Campaign.
  15. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.  Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  16. Participate in branch, Association and program cabinet meetings as assigned.
  17. Responsible for strict adherence to all Association policies and procedures as well as State of Wisconsin licensing rules. Conducts annual review of those policies and procedures.
  18. Be a champion for overall branch membership goals, retention, and satisfaction.
  19. Performs other duties as assigned.
  20. Employees are held responsible for all duties of the job.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  1. Must be at least 21 years of age and have 240 hours of experience in an approved education setting.
  2. Must have completed high school or equivalent.
  3. Must meet Child Care Licensing requirements including one of the following: an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree (related field preferred); or otherwise qualified as a School-Age Director through The Wisconsin Registry.
  4. Minimum of 240 hours of related experience working with early childhood or school-aged children in an approved setting.
  5. Minimum one year of supervisory experience preferred.
  6. Ability to direct programs through supervision of staff, development and monitoring of budgets, marketing and public relations, program development and fundraising activities.
  7. Must have a sincere interest and ability to comprehend needs and develop positive outcomes in children from diverse populations.
  8. Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with others.
  9. Ability to relate effectively with diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  10. Strong written and oral communication skills required.
  11. Must be able and willing to obtain CPR, First Aid, AED, Abusive Head Trauma, Mandated Reporter, Wisconsin Registry certification, and additional non-credit school-age coursework and/or coaching/mentoring (as needed).
  12. Exhibit the core values of caring, respect, honesty, and responsibility in all aspects of their work with the YMCA.
  13. Must have a current driver’s license and be able to travel to multiple work sites during a workday. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs. and work and facilitate programming both indoors and outdoors; must be able to assume postures in low levels to allow physical and visual contact with children; see and hear well enough to keep children safe; and engage in physical activity with children.
