As an Equipment Servicer, you will perform routine preventive maintenance, assemble tools and parts, and clean equipment.Equipment Servicer
Serves in the Mobile Lounge Shop in the Equipment Maintenance Division of the Engineering and Maintenance Department at Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD).
Performs preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment and general maintenance on heavy mobile equipment. Fuels equipment, steam cleans engines, disposes of excess tires, and cleans shop area. Receives on-the-job training for more difficult work. Performs related functions.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Â
Operates an Airports Authority tanker truck to refuel Mobile Lounges and Plane-Mates on the airfield and critical runway snow removal equipment during snow emergencies.
Â
Drives equipment to fueling station dispenses fuel, and records amount in fuel log. Inspects equipment during refueling, identifies repair or maintenance needs and refers repairs.
Â
Transports excess and unrepairable tires to dump sites to dispose of them.
Â
Checks fluid levels and adds fluids, as needed.
Â
Progressively performs more difficult assignments under the lead of a higher-grade Mechanic. Assists Mechanics in lubricating equipment and vehicle components; replacing oil and air filter elements; draining, flushing, and checking fluid levels in braking systems and power steering reservoirs; checking hydraulic fluid reservoirs; and replacing accessories such as rear-view mirrors and headlight bulbs.

Checks components such as spark plugs, fan belts, tailpipes, hoses, and similar items. Replaces, as needed. Refers identified major repairs to higher-grade mechanics.

Cleans engines of mobile lounges and other heavy mobile equipment, as instructed.
Â
Operates a tanker truck or vehicle on and off the airport complex.
Â
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Zero to one year of experience in operating medium to heavy-duty trucks in traffic or work zones.
Ability to perform a vehicle walk-around inspection, check fluid levels and safety equipment, and identify discrepancies.
Rudimentary knowledge of automotive and equipment repairs.
Skill in using basic hand and power tools.
Ability to work safely and knowledge of the safety rules, regulations, and procedures needed to do so.
Ability to speak and write effectively.
Ability to use a computer, computerized work order system, and time and attendance system.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience servicing and working with heavy mobile equipment.
Licensed as a Class B Commercial Driver (CDL) with H & N (X) Endorsements (Hazmat & Tanker) by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles.
EDUCATION
A high school diploma or a Certificate of General Educational Development (GED).
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES REQUIRED
A state driver’s license in good standing.
Licensed as a Class B Commercial Driver (CDL) with H & N (X) Endorsements (Hazmat & Tanker) within 90 days of hire, promotion, or placement in the job.
NECESSARY SPECIAL FACTORS
Operates vehicle landside and airside (requires AOA permit).
Work is typically reviewed in progress and upon completion for quantity, quality, timeliness, teamwork, customer service, and other factors.
Is subject to hold-over and recall on a 24-hour basis for essential services and emergencies such as snow removal.
May be subject to night/weekend work.
May be subject to adverse weather conditions and dust/grease/dirt.
May be subject to potential hazards common to the airport environment and equipment servicing trade.
Wear personal protective gear, as necessary.
Work requires moderate to heavy physical exertion (exerting 20 to 40 pounds of force). May bend, stoop, crouch, and work in a cramped position.
A background security investigation will be required for all new hires.
