Core Faculty, Music Therapy (Open Rank)

The Opportunity

Lesley University is seeking a full-time faculty member in Music Therapy to join our innovative Expressive Therapies Department, which brings together counseling and five arts-based specializations: Music Therapy, Art Therapy, Dance/Movement Therapy, Drama Therapy, and Expressive Arts Therapy. The successful candidate will be an experienced scholar-practitioner with expertise in Music Therapy and clinical mental health counseling who can contribute to graduate-level teaching, student advising and mentorship, curriculum development, and the continued growth of the Music Therapy specialization.

The faculty member will teach graduate courses across in-person, hybrid, and online formats and will integrate musical, creative, and clinical processes into teaching and clinical preparation. The role includes advising and mentoring students, contributing to curriculum development and assessment, participating in accreditation and program evaluation activities, and contributing to the intellectual life of the department through scholarship, creative work, clinical practice, presentations, publications, workshops, or community engagement.

Founded in 1973, Lesley University’s Expressive Therapies programs have been national leaders in the field for more than 50 years. Our programs prepare students to integrate the arts with clinical mental health practice and provide a uniquely interdisciplinary environment in which students and faculty across all five expressive therapies specializations collaborate. Programs are offered in both on-campus and low-residency formats.

Qualities and Capabilities

• Master’s degree in Music Therapy or a related field, with graduate coursework meeting applicable Music Therapy academic requirements; doctorate preferred.
• Board-Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC).
• Massachusetts LMHC or eligibility to obtain Massachusetts licensure within one year of hire.
• At least five years of full-time clinical experience, or equivalent part-time experience, with a record of scholarly, creative, or professional activity.
• Higher education teaching experience, preferably at the graduate level, in Music Therapy, Expressive Therapies, Counseling, or a related field.
• Demonstrated expertise in Music Therapy and music-based therapeutic approaches with diverse populations.
• Ability to teach Music Therapy specialization courses as well as general clinical mental health counseling courses, such as counseling theories, psychopathology, professional ethics, assessment, and vocational counseling, is preferred.
• Experience teaching across multiple modalities, including in-person, hybrid, and online formats.
• Commitment to culturally responsive, trauma-informed, inclusive, and evidence-based teaching and clinical practice.
• Experience with AMTA accreditation and/or program accreditation is preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to contribute to curriculum development, program assessment, and continuous improvement.
