Automotive Refinish Technician – Collision Repair

We are seeking an experiencedAutomotive Refinish Technician to join our collision repair team.

This is a hands on position for a technician who takes pride in producing a consistent, high-quality finish and understands that the quality of a paint job begins well before the vehicle enters the booth.

We are looking for someone who is experienced with theGlasurit 100 Line and understands the importance of proper colour retrieval, preparation, application, and finishing procedures.

Our approach isquality over quantity. We expect our technicians to produce a consistent volume of work, but not at the expense of quality. The goal is to complete each repair correctly the first time, minimizing the need for additional fine-tuning, rework, or correction after the vehicle leaves the booth.

Position Responsibilities

The Refinish Technician will be responsible for taking repaired vehicles from the body department through the complete refinish process, including preparation, priming, and final finishing.

Responsibilities will include:

• Receiving repaired vehicles from the body department and reviewing the repair prior to beginning the prep process
• Completing all required preparation work before paint application
• Masking vehicles and components accurately and efficiently
• Preparing panels and repaired areas to the required standard for refinishing
• Applying primers, sealers, basecoat, and clearcoat according to manufacturer specifications
• Utilizing theGlasurit 100 Line and associated colour-matching procedures
• Utilizing the colour retrieval camera to identify and retrieve appropriate colour formulas
• Completing asprayout card for every paint cycle
• Evaluating colour, coverage, blend, and finish before proceeding with the repair
• Performing colour blending and panel refinishing as required
• Ensuring proper flash times, application techniques, and curing procedures
• Inspecting completed paintwork for coverage, colour match, texture, contamination, dirt nibs, and other imperfections
• Polishing completed work and removing dirt nibs or minor imperfections as required
• Completing final refinishing work to a standard that minimizes the need for additional correction
• Communicating any concerns with body repairs or preparation before proceeding with paint

Quality Expectations

We are looking for a technician who understands thatquality is built into the process.

The expectation is not simply to get vehicles through the booth. The expectation is to produce finished work that meets a professional collision repair standard with minimal need for additional refinement.

This means:

• Proper preparation before paint
• Accurate colour identification and verification
• Consistent application technique
• Proper spray-out procedures
• Careful inspection of completed work
• Proper polishing and final finishing
• Identifying and correcting issues before the vehicle moves forward in the process

Some polishing and finishing is a normal part of quality refinishing. However, our goal is to produce paintwork that requiresminimal correction because it was properly prepared and applied in the first place.

Qualifications & Experience

The ideal candidate will have:

• Previous professional experience as an Automotive Refinish Technician
• Experience working in a collision repair environment
• Strong experience with theGlasurit 100 Line
• Experience with colour retrieval and colour-matching procedures
• Experience using a colour retrieval camera
• Strong understanding of preparation, paint application, blending, and finishing
• Experience producing and evaluating sprayout cards
• Ability to identify and correct colour, coverage, texture, and finish issues
• Experience polishing and correcting completed paintwork
• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to work efficiently while maintaining consistent quality
• Good organizational and inventory management skills
• A professional approach to shop cleanliness and equipment maintenance

Inventory & Materials Management

The Refinish Technician will be responsible for maintaining and managing their own refinish-related inventory.

This includes:

• Monitoring paint and refinish material levels
• Maintaining appropriate inventory levels
• Tracking material usage through our inventory management software
• Recording material consumption accurately
• Identifying materials that need to be reordered
• Maintaining an organized paint and material area
• Using products and materials responsibly to minimize unnecessary waste

Experience with inventory management software is an asset, but training will be provided on the systems used in our facility.

Spray Booth & Work Area Maintenance

The Refinish Technician will also be responsible for maintaining the spray booth and immediate work environment to the standards required for consistent refinishing results.

Responsibilities include:

• Keeping the spray booth clean and free of debris
• Vacuuming the booth floor regularly
• Changing booth filters as required
• Removing accumulated contaminants
• Blowing out residual contaminants prior to paint cycles
• Ensuring the booth is properly prepared before each cycle
• Maintaining a clean and organized mixing and prep area
• Identifying and reporting booth or equipment issues

A clean booth and controlled work environment are essential to producing consistent paintwork. Booth maintenance is therefore considered part of the refinishing process, not an afterthought.
