Transplant Hepatologist - Faculty (Open Rank)

The Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) seeks a board certified or board eligible physician to join our expanding Division. This position is located in Milwaukee, WI at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital (FMLH). Position Highlights:

• Full time faculty position within the MCW Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology and the Department of Medicine in conjunction with the Froedtert & MCW Transplant Service Line

• Fully accredited ACGME Gastroenterology & Hepatology Fellowship program with 13 fellows with intent to initiate a Transplant Hepatology Fellowship Program. Fellows allotted to Transplant/Hepatology consultative service. This is a large & vibrant training program with transplant hepatology/general hepatology call coverage provided by fellows under faculty supervision, and fellow endoscopy call coverage of hepatology/transplant hepatology patients supervised by the gastroenterology faculty

• Participate in the institution's academic, research, and educational missions

• Opportunity to build a practice in transplant hepatology & general hepatology at FMLH, and various other outreach locations

• Opportunity to lead outreach clinic efforts in collaboration with current transplant hepatologists to grow & expand patient access to hepatology services

• Interest in outreach clinic efforts in collaboration with the current 4 transplant hepatologists to help grow and expand hepatology access for patients

• Serve as a consultant on general and transplant hepatology patients

• Contribute to the clinical education of fellows, residents, medical students, and other trainees

• Participate in multidisciplinary care involving hepatologists, hepatology APPs, gastroenterologists, and other relevant specialties

• Deliver patient-centered care while fostering a culture of inquiry, quality, & safety

• Strong APP, nutritional, & pharmacy support

• Serve as a consultant for transplant hepatology & hepatology patients (rather than the primary attending) for hospitalized patients

• Participate in multidisciplinary rounds (mornings), outpatient clinic (afternoons), and 1-2 endoscopy/clinic sessions on non-call weeks

• Collaborate with the hepatologists, 7 hepatology APPs,  gastroenterologists, and medical/surgical transplant faculty to expand our existing transplant hepatology program

• Full advanced endoscopy support including ERCP and EUS services, as well as comprehensive GI endoscopy support

• New state-of-the-art Digestive Disease Center (opened in early 2024), including the opportunity to perform liver biopsies

• Contribute to the clinical education of fellows, residents, medical students, and other trainees

Division Highlights:

• The Transplant Hepatologists at MCW work extremely collaboratively with the surgical team from the Division of Transplant Surgery

• The transplant hepatology practice is a dynamic & rapidly growing program recognized for its collaborative, patient-centered approach and commitment to clinical excellence

• In partnership with Froedtert Hospital, the division plays a central role in Southeast Wisconsin’s leading liver transplant program, with steadily increasing transplant volumes and outstanding outcomes

• The multidisciplinary team includes experienced hepatologists, transplant surgeons, advanced practice providers, and dedicated support staff who work together to deliver comprehensive care across the continuum—from pre-transplant evaluation to long term post-transplant management

• The division benefits from strong institutional support, a new state-of-the-art Digestive Disease Center, and close collaboration with its GI colleagues, as well as support from not only surgery & critical care teams, but also from a myriad of other services.

• A dedicated transplant ICU facilitates rapid access for critically ill patients and provides comprehensive state-of-the-art care

Qualifications: 

• Completion of an Internal Medicine residency, Gastroenterology Fellowship, and Transplant Hepatology training

• Eligible for or completion of the CAQ (Certificate of Added Qualification) in Transplant Hepatology

• Eligible for full, unrestricted licensure in Wisconsin
