Software Engineering Team Lead

About The Role:

Ready to take the next step in your engineering career and grow your leadership capability without stepping away from the code? We’re looking for a Software Engineering Team Lead to lead the day-to-day delivery and technical practices of our In-house Development team.

This is a hands-on leadership role that combines senior software engineering with the opportunity to coach, mentor and support a small team of engineers. You’ll continue to design, build, review and solve complex technical problems, while helping your team deliver high-quality, reliable and maintainable software.

You’ll have the opportunity to influence technical decisions, strengthen engineering practices and create an environment where engineers are supported to do their best work. Working closely with Product Owners, Business Analysts, QA Engineers, Delivery Leads and other technical specialists, you’ll help turn business needs into simple, effective technical solutions.

This role is open to those based in Auckland & Hamilton.

What You’ll Be Doing

·Lead, coach and support our In-house Development engineers, through regular 1:1s, development conversations and day-to-day work allocation.

·Stay hands-on across software design, development, code review and technical problem solving.

·Guide technical decisions and solution design, with a focus on simple, maintainable, testable and operable solutions.

·Design and develop software across APIs, integrations, backend services and customer-facing applications.

·Champion modern engineering practices including Acceptance Test-Driven Development (ATDD), automated testing, CI/CD and continuous delivery.

·Work collaboratively across Product, Business Analysis and QA to explore requirements through concrete examples, agree acceptance criteria before implementation, and identify dependencies and risks early.

·Build capability across the team through coaching, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement of our engineering practices.

·These responsibilities reflect the leadership, technical decision-making, software delivery and capability-building accountabilities in the position description.

Skills and Experience Required:

·5+ years’ professional software development experience.

·A tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent practical experience.

·Strong experience designing and building APIs, integrations and service-based architectures.

·Strong experience with TypeScript or C#.

·Experience working with CI/CD and continuous delivery practices.

·A strong quality mindset, with experience designing software with testability, observability and automation in mind.

·Strong analytical and problem-solving capability, with the ability to translate business requirements into pragmatic technical solutions.

·The ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and work effectively across different teams.

·A genuine interest in coaching, mentoring and developing other engineers.

Experience with AWS, Docker,executable specification tooling such as Cucumber or SpecFlow, or working within telecommunications would be an advantage, but isn't essential.
