Accelerate clinical trials through AI. As Associate Director, AI Product Owner within AstraZeneca's Global Clinical Solutions Emerging Technologies team, you will own the end-to-end lifecycle of AI-powered clinical systems — from roadmap definition through compliant deployment and continuous improvement. You will bridge Clinical Operations, R&D IT, and AI to deliver practical, scalable AI solutions that improve study delivery efficiency and data quality. Operating within a regulated GxP environment, you will balance agile delivery with compliance rigor, translating user needs into validated, production-ready AI capabilities including NLP, predictive analytics, and automation. This role requires strong product ownership, stakeholder engagement, and a working knowledge of AI/ML technologies applied to clinical operations.Â
Typical Accountabilities:
 Own AI Product DeliveryÂ
- Define and maintain product roadmaps for assigned AI-enabled clinical systems, prioritizing features based on user value, feasibility, and compliance requirementsÂ
- Translate business and operational needs into user stories, acceptance criteria, and backlog items within agile frameworks (Scrum, SAFe, Kanban)Â
- Manage the full product lifecycle — from requirements gathering and development through validation, deployment, and retirement — in alignment with GxP standardsÂ
- Identify and scope AI improvement opportunities within assigned systems, focusing on automation, NLP, and predictive capabilities that reduce manual burden and accelerate study deliveryÂ
- Monitor system performance against defined KPIs, using data to drive prioritization and continuous improvementÂ
Collaborate Across FunctionsÂ
- Partner with R&D IT, Data Science, Clinical Operations, and QA to co-develop solutions that are technically sound, user-centered, and audit-readyÂ
- Engage vendors and technology partners to manage feature delivery, resolve issues, and ensure contractual alignmentÂ
- Act as the voice of the end user, synthesizing feedback from study teams and clinical operations to continuously refine AI product capabilitiesÂ
- Contribute to governance bodies and steering committees relevant to assigned systems, representing business interests in prioritization and risk decisionsÂ
- Ensure Compliant AI AdoptionÂ
- Embed regulatory compliance (ICH/GxP, FDA, EMA) throughout the product lifecycle, including validation planning, risk assessments, and SOP maintenanceÂ
- Produce and maintain system documentation — validation plans, user requirements, risk registers — to ensure audit and inspection readinessÂ
- Champion responsible AI practices including bias awareness, transparency, and data privacy (GDPR, HIPAA) within the scope of assigned productsÂ
- Support audit and regulatory inspection preparation and conduct, providing documentation and subject matter expertiseÂ
Drive Continuous ImprovementÂ
- Define and track KPIs for system performance, user adoption, and compliance adherenceÂ
- Apply process improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean Six Sigma) to identify inefficiencies and deliver measurable operational gainsÂ
- Stay current with AI/ML developments relevant to clinical operations, surfacing applicable innovations for consideration within the product roadmapÂ
EssentialÂ
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Data Science, Life Sciences, or equivalent experience.Â
- Proficiency in agile delivery methodologies (Scrum, SAFe, Kanban) with experience managing backlogs, writing user stories, and defining acceptance criteriaÂ
- Working knowledge of AI/ML technologies — including NLP, predictive analytics, and automation — and their application to clinical or regulated environmentsÂ
- Experience in a regulated industry (pharma, biotech, medical devices, or healthcare) with knowledge of ICH/GxP, FDA, or EMA standardsÂ
- Experience producing GxP-compliant system documentation, including validation plans, risk assessments, and SOPsÂ
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholdersÂ
DesirableÂ
- Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in a relevant disciplineÂ
- Recognized agile certification (Certified Scrum Product Owner, SAFe PO/PM, or equivalent)Â
- Hands-on experience with AI/ML platformsÂ
- Experience with Lean Six Sigma or equivalent process improvement methodologiesÂ
- Experience with project management tools (e.g., Jira) and service management practicesÂ
- Experience managing external vendors and technology partnersÂ
- Understanding of data privacy regulations (GDPR, HIPAA) and their implications for AI product developmentÂ
