Mechanical Responsible Engineer (RE) āš™ļø

The RE holds full technical accountability for mechanical & ventilation engineering within their area, ensuring all work is safe, compliant, and fit for purpose across the project lifecycle šŸ”.

Working to R2A2 (ED21), you’ll provide technical leadership, governance, and assurance, while retaining responsibility for key engineering decisions—even when delegated šŸ‘·ā€ā™‚ļø.

Key Responsibilities & Experience:

  • Strong mechanical engineering background in regulated, safety-critical environments āš ļø
  • Proven technical accountability & decision-making experience āœ…
  • Ensure compliance with legislation, standards, and safety requirements šŸ“œ
  • Establish governance, assurance & verification processes 🧩
  • Lead multi-disciplinary teams & resolve complex technical issues šŸ¤
  • Manage technical risks effectively ⚔
  • Interface with project teams, regulators & assurance bodies šŸ¢
  • Promote a strong safety, quality & compliance culture šŸ›”ļø

Essential Qualifications šŸŽ“

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline āš™ļø
  • Extensive experience aligned to a Responsible Engineer role šŸ—ļø
  • Chartered Engineer (or equivalent) with a recognised institution šŸ‘Øā€šŸ”§
  • Able to meet security clearance & site access requirements šŸ”

Key Experience šŸ’¼

  • Experience as a Responsible Engineer or technical authority in nuclear/high-hazard environments ā˜¢ļø
  • Safety case development, substantiation & regulatory engagement šŸ“Š
  • Full lifecycle delivery: concept → commissioning & handover šŸ”„
  • Managing deviations, concessions & non-conformances āš ļø
  • Strong understanding of governance, assurance & gated processes 🧩
  • Contribution to strategic decision-making & continuous improvement šŸ“ˆ

Specialist Knowledge ⭐

  • SQEP in high-integrity piping design (incl. seismic & safety case) šŸ”©
  • Machinery Directive & machinery design expertise āš™ļø
  • UKCA marking for new facilities šŸ‡¬šŸ‡§
  • Familiarity with SEMs, Design Capability CoE & organisational structures šŸ¢
  • SQEP aligned with SR0699 & ED21 standards šŸŽÆ
