This role sits inside a fast-growing, AI-native law firm that is reimagining how commercial contract work gets done. The Associate Commercial Counsel will draft, review, and negotiate technology agreements at high volume, without billable hours, while helping build the workflows and playbooks that make this new model scale. It is a genuine ground-floor opportunity to shape how legal services are delivered.
The ideal candidate brings three to five years of hands-on experience in commercial contracts or technology transactions, ideally from a BigLaw or startup environment, and is already using AI tools in their day-to-day legal work, not just curious about them. They communicate clearly with business stakeholders, move quickly without cutting corners, and are energized by contributing beyond the contract queue.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate a high volume of SaaS, vendor, licensing, and commercial technology agreements end to end
- Use AI-native legal tools daily to accelerate drafting, review, and issue-spotting while maintaining quality
- Advise clients directly on commercial risk and contract strategy using plain-language, actionable guidance
- Translate legal complexity into clear recommendations that business stakeholders can act on
- Build and maintain trusted client relationships through warm, consistent communication
- Contribute to knowledge management, contract playbooks, and product feedback to help scale firm capabilities
- Identify negotiation risks and flag issues proactively before they become client problems
- Work shift-based coverage to support client needs across business hours
Required Skills & Experience
- JD from an accredited U.S. law school with active bar membership in good standing
- 3 to 5 years of experience in commercial contracts, technology transactions, or a drafting-heavy practice area
- Hands-on, current use of AI tools in legal practice (not theoretical)
- Strong client-facing communication skills, warm, articulate, and comfortable advising business stakeholders directly
- Scrappy, builder mindset with willingness to contribute beyond core contract work
- Ability to work U.S.-based hours in Central or Pacific time zones
- U.S. work authorization required (not open to visa sponsorship)
Preferred Skills
- BigLaw or high-growth startup background
- T-14 law school degree
- Experience contributing to legal operations, playbooks, or process improvement initiatives
- Familiarity with outcome-based or fixed-fee legal service models
