Sounds great – what’s the role in a nutshell?

The Deckhand is an essential member of the deck department, responsible for the general maintenance, cleanliness, and operation of the vessel's exterior and key equipment.This role reports directly to the Bosun and/or the First Officer and mustmaintain the highest standards of safety, presentation, and professionalismat all times. 

Your passion is:

Vessel
Maintenance
andCleaning 

• Execute
  daily
  wash-downs, chamoisdrying, andpolishing
  of
  all exteriorsurfaces,including
  superstructure,hull,stainless
  steel, andteak. 

• Varnish,paint, and completebrightwork asdirected
  by
  the
  Bosun,ensuring
  the
  vessel's
  immaculate
  presentation. 

• Manage
  waste andgarbage
  disposal incompliance
  with MARPOL andcompany
  environmental
  standards. 

• Assist
  the
  engineering
  department
  with
  basic
  watchkeeping
  duties
  or
  routine
  checks asneeded. 

Watchkeeping and Safety 

• Perform
  competent andalert
  deck
  watches
  while
  the
  vessel
  is at anchoror
  underway,reporting
  any
  changes
  or
  observations
  immediately. 

• Act as alookout andsteering
  assistant
  during
  navigation. 

• Participate
  fully inall safetydrills,including
  fire,man
  overboard, andemergency
  procedures. 

• Ensure
  all safetyequipment,including
  fire
  extinguishers andlife
  rafts,is
  inspected andready
  for
  immediate use. 

Operations andTenders 

• Assist
  with
  all
  mooring andanchoring
  operations,including linehandling,fender
  deployment, andsplicing. 

• Operate andmaintain
  the
  vessel’s
  tenders andwater
  sports
  equipment (jetskis,wakeboards, etc.). 

• Ensure
  the
  orderly andsafe
  storage
  of
  all
  deck
  equipment andinventories. 

Guest/Crew
Support 

• When
  applicable (e.g.,on ayacht),provide
  professional anddiscreet
  service
  to
  guests asdirected,including
  setting upwater
  sports andassisting
  with
  luggage. 

• Maintain a professional appearance andconduct at all times whenrepresenting the vessel or the company

What are we looking for?

• ValidSTCW Basic Safety Training certification (as per STCW 95/2010 regulations). 
• Valid ENG1 or equivalent Seafarer Medical Certificate. 
• Experience:
  Skills: Provenproficiency inline handling, knot tying, watchkeeping, and exterior maintenance (washing, waxing, and polishing). 
• Powerboat Level 2 or equivalent certificate is highly desirable. 
  
• 5+years
  Previous experience as a Deckhand, preferably on vessels over 70metres, or relevant experience in the maritime industry.
• Fluent in English
• Excellent physical fitness, ability to lift heavy weights, and work extended hours in various weather conditions. 
• High-standardExterior Detailing (washing, waxing, buffing) 
• Stainless Steel Polishing and Brightwork 
• BasicPainting and Varnishing 
  
• Care and maintenance ofTeak Decking 
• Managing andmaintaining Water Sports Equipment.
