Medical Equipment and Supply Specialists serve as a vital link between patients, healthcare providers, and insurance payers by managing equipment orders and coverage requirements. Their attention to detail helps ensure timely delivery of needed medical supplies and a positive patient experience.

Job Summary:
Acts as a liaison between employees, providers, payers, customers, and other health care providers to obtain necessary documentation and process orders for medical equipment and supplies.Job Responsibilities and Requirements:
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILTIES
- Obtains and interprets medical documentation, compares documentation with insurance coverage criteria, and creates orders to provide medical equipment and supplies.Â
- Verifies patient insurance eligibility/benefits and communicates financial responsibilities to patients, caregivers, and other health care providers.Â
- Reviews, obtains, and logs appropriate medical documentation that supports the reimbursement of equipment/supplies.Â
- Performs accurate data entry into operating system and processes orders for appropriate equipment/supplies to ensure delivery and correct billing.Â
- Communicates with patients, employees, payers, caregivers, and other health care providers on status of orders.Â
- Collects payments from patients for coinsurance, copays, and self-pay items.Â
- Obtains written orders and prior authorization for appropriate equipment/supplies.Â
- Ensures compliance with Medicare, Medicaid and Accreditation Standards.Â
- Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.Â
- Performs other duties as assigned.Â
EDUCATION
- High School diploma/GED or 10 years of work experience
EXPERIENCE
- Two years' experience
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
- Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
- Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.
- Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication. Ability to hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
- Frequent keyboard use/data entry.
- Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting and gripping.
- Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
- Rare climbing.
