The Virtual Preparatory Academy of West Virginia is a K-12 tuition-free online public school in the state of West Virginia. At VPA West Virginia, we empower students to be their best by enabling them to learn in ways that are right for them – using innovative technology at home, at their proper level, and at their own pace.Â
We are seeking teachers who are excited to create a rigorous and nurturing classroom environment that prioritizes student learning and social-emotional development. ACCEL Schools uses a cutting-edge 21st-century curriculum, which can be accessed online and through a variety of traditional methods. Â
Please note – while this is an online school position and all instruction occurs virtually, travel and face to face attendance will be required several times per year to support in person state testing and student events.Â

About the OpportunityÂ
- Serve as the teacher of record and primary instructor in all core content areas and grade levelsÂ
- Relentlessly work to meet all goals related to student achievement and culture as well as state specific academic accountability goalsÂ
- Deliver highly effective live lessons via web conference based on student need, rooted in research-based instructional practicesÂ
- Complete course set up for each course within the Learning Management SystemÂ
- Monitor student progress in asynchronous courses and provide feedback/grade assignments dailyÂ
- Track and maintain contact with each studentÂ
- Collaborate with Principal to create and deliver Progress Reports of StudentsÂ
- Review student level data frequently to inform instructional program adjustmentsÂ
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all studentsÂ
- Utilize research-based best practices in both synchronous and asynchronous instructionÂ
- Create a joyful, caring, and loving classroom environment for all studentsÂ
- Integrate culturally responsive teaching practices into daily lessons and interactions with students, parents, and colleaguesÂ
- Implement school-wide culture expectations and norms, inside the classroom and beyondÂ
- Communicate regularly with families regarding the academic and social-emotional growth of their childÂ
- Incorporate 21st century technology skills into daily classroom practice and team settingsÂ
- Participate in the planning and implementation of non-instructional activities such as social events and field trips and attend these events in personÂ
- Collaborate and communicate effectively, humbly, and respectfully with all colleaguesÂ
- Travel to support required face-to-face state testing annuallyÂ
- Perform other duties as assignedÂ
About YouÂ
- Current State teaching license in appropriate content areaÂ
- Knowledge of State Standards and Common Core StandardsÂ
- Preferred two years’ experience teachingÂ
- High level of comfort working in a growth-focused coaching environment based on frequent observations, debriefs, action planning, and progress monitoringÂ
- High quality written and verbal communication skillsÂ
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Word and OutlookÂ
- Ability to properly manage confidential informationÂ
- Ability to stand for up to 90 minutes at a timeÂ
- Ability to supervise students in all school settingsÂ
- Ability to pass federal and state criminal background checksÂ
- Experience working in a multi-cultural setting preferredÂ
