Pediatric Music Therapist

The Music Therapist provides music therapy as a modality to relieve the physical, emotional, and spiritual suffering caused by advanced, life limiting conditions of the pediatric patients, and their families. 

Position Details

• Work Location:   Dorion Family Pediatric Center/Community Hospice and Palliative Care main location; 4266 Sunbeam Road Jacksonville, FL. 
• Days/Hours:  Monday - Friday,  8:00am - 5:00pm; weekends and weeknights as needed. 
• Compensation: Commensurate with experience; plus full benefits package including 23 days annual PTO 

Job Responsibilities

• Assess pediatric patients referred to the music therapy program and identify individualized therapeutic needs, goals, and areas of support.
• Develop individualized therapeutic interventions that are consistent with each patient’s strengths, developmental needs, culture, faith, interests, and identified clinical concerns.
• Create, develop, coordinate, and facilitate ongoing music therapy sessions, therapeutic programming, and group activities at the Dorion Family Pediatric Center for pediatric patients and their families to promote emotional expression, social connection, coping skills, communication, self-expression, normalization, and positive family interactions.
• Collaborate with Dorion Family Pediatric Center staff and interdisciplinary team members to identify programming needs and develop music therapy experiences that support the overall well-being of patients and families.
• Implement and evaluate individualized music therapy treatment plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, adjusting interventions as clinically indicated.
• Provide individual music therapy sessions for pediatric patients and their families 
• Develop and provide music therapy interventions for procedural support, medical coping, and preparation.
• Provide family and group therapy sessions as indicated, including bereavement support, family support, and staff support.
• Document all music therapy interventions, including the pediatric patient’s physical status, therapeutic goals, interventions provided, and observable and measurable outcomes.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of music therapy interventions and communicate patient progress and outcomes to members of the interdisciplinary team.
• Develop and maintain music libraries and therapeutic music resources accessible to patients, families, staff, and volunteers.
• Develop with the team a music therapy training center and oversee music therapy interns, including their clinical training, supervision, and professional development.
• Support the integration of music therapy programming throughout pediatric services and promote awareness of the therapeutic benefits of music within the organization.
• Participate in evening and weekend programming and events as required.

Experience & Education

• Undergraduate degree or equivalence in music therapy from an approved program
• Board Certification in Music Therapy
