AECOM is seeking aTechnical Coordinator to support tenant improvement projects at a major commercial airport inSan Diego, California. Reporting to an Airport Design and Construction Project Manager, this position will coordinate and review architectural design and construction activities for tenant improvement projects, including terminal concessions and other tenant spaces.

The Technical Coordinator will support projects throughout design, permitting, construction and closeout, working closely with tenant project teams, designers, contractors and airport stakeholders. The role will help manage design reviews, coordinate project interfaces, track deliverables and schedules, and verify that tenant improvements align with applicable airport requirements, design standards and operational considerations.

This position requires strong coordination and communication skills and the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams in an active airport environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Coordinate the design review process for project deliverables, including stakeholder engagement, review comments, page-turn reviews and comment reconciliation.
  • Organize and participate in design review and project coordination meetings with tenant designers, contractors and airport stakeholders.
  • Prepare presentations, meeting agendas and meeting notes, and lead coordination meetings and follow-up activities for assigned tasks.
  • Support the Project Manager with project budgets, cost estimates, schedules, progress reporting and project tracking logs.
  • Coordinate the routing, tracking and processing of tenant design deliverables, design changes, submittals, requests for information (RFIs), permit documentation and closeout materials.
  • Review design documents for alignment with applicable airport architectural and engineering requirements, guidelines and standards.
  • Identify design considerations that could affect airport operations, facility maintenance, utilities or constructability and coordinate resolution with appropriate stakeholders.
  • Maintain project records, correspondence, meeting materials, review comments, permit documentation, RFIs, submittals, change requests and closeout records in accordance with established document management procedures.
  • Support preparation of project information and reporting for airport management and governmental stakeholders.
  • Coordinate project activities involving airport business development, art program and airline relations stakeholders in accordance with applicable tenant agreements and project requirements.
  • Assist tenant and program project managers with correspondence, meeting notifications, change requests, required documentation and tracking of outstanding project information.
  • Coordinate tenant permit submissions with applicable Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), including tracking review schedules and resolution of review comments.
  • Support construction coordination with construction management, inspection, safety and security teams and participate in preconstruction, safety and construction progress meetings.
  • Monitor RFIs, submittals and field changes to help ensure timely review and resolution.
  • Support project closeout activities, including coordination of required documentation and outstanding project requirements.
  • Build productive working relationships with tenant representatives, consultants, contractors and airport stakeholders to support successful project delivery.

Minimum requirements

  • BA/BS + 2 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Valid California Class C driver’s license and ability to meet applicable driver qualification requirements.
  • As a condition of employment, the selected candidate must successfully complete applicable airport access and security requirements and required employment screening which will require a drug and alcohol check as well.
  • US Citizenship is Required.

Preferred qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience supporting tenant improvement, architectural design coordination, construction management or related projects.
  • Experience supporting projects in an airport, transportation, commercial development or similarly complex operational environment.
  • Experience supporting the design, coordination or management of tenant improvement, architectural or building projects.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary design reviews, construction documentation and stakeholder comments.
  • Proficiency with Bluebeam and Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Working familiarity with computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) and building information modeling (BIM) applications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical information to both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Ability to organize multiple concurrent activities, maintain project documentation and independently follow assigned actions through completion.
  • Experience coordinating terminal concessions, retail, food and beverage, airline or other tenant improvement projects.
  • Familiarity with airport design criteria, architectural and engineering standards, permitting processes and Authorities Having Jurisdiction.
  • Experience with project management or construction management systems such as PMWeb or equivalent.
  • Experience coordinating project schedules, cost information, design changes, submittals, RFIs and construction closeout documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead coordination meetings and work collaboratively with owners, tenants, designers, contractors and multidisciplinary stakeholders.
  • This position is expected to beoffice- and project-site-based in San Diego, California, with regular coordination in an active airport environment.
  • The position may require access to secure airport areas and compliance with applicable airport security, safety and badging requirements.
