This position is being recruited by Pakistan Single Window (PSW) on behalf of the National Agri-Trade and Food Safety Authority (NAFSA). NAFSA is being established as a strategic national initiative to strengthen Pakistan’s agri-trade ecosystem through enhanced regulatory oversight, facilitation, and modernization of food safety and trade processes. The selected candidate will be part of NAFSA’s foundational team, contributing to the development of systems, processes, and institutional capabilities.
Responsibilities:
- Determine data requirements for pesticide risk assessment, including safety to non target organisms and environmental impacts of pesticide products
- Develop and recommend risk-based pesticide management policies that promote Integrated Pest Management (IPM), resistance management, and adoption of safer/low-risk alternatives.
- Review and interpret pesticide study outputs (bio-efficacy, residues, eco-toxicology, environmental fate) to support evidence-based regulatory decisions.
- Assess system-level regulatory outcomes and aggregated operational feedback to recommend policy refinements and regulatory reforms
- Coordinate with Pesticide Registration & Certification Division (OW) to ensure scientific assessments are reflected in product and business registration decisions.
- Liaise with provincial agriculture departments, research institutes, and laboratories for studies, trials, and evidence generation
- Prepare technical notes, briefs, and recommendations for Scientific Committee deliberations and senior management decisions.
- Monitor international standards, conventions, and good practices relevant to pesticide regulation (e.g., FAO/WHO guidance) and propose updates for national alignment.
- Perform any other responsibilities assigned by the reporting officer in support of NAFSA’s mandate
Education:
- M.Sc. (Hons.) / MPhil (minimum eighteen years of education) in Agriculture (Entomology/Plant Protection/Plant Pathology, Weeds Science), Chemistry (Analytical/Environmental), Environmental Sciences, or equivalent.
Experience:
- Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in pesticide studies, regulatory evaluation, risk assessment, residue analysis, or related fields.
- Knowledge of pesticide regulatory principles, IPM and resistance management approaches, and environmental/eco-toxicological considerations.
- Strong analytical, synthesis, and report-writing skills.
- Ability to coordinate multi-stakeholder technical processes and manage study/trial inputs.
- Research publications in HEC-recognised journals (preferred).
