As a Research Study Assistant III, you will play a crucial role in carrying out research projects within regulatory compliance guidelines. You will interact with internal and external stakeholders, support study participants, and ensure compliance with protocol requirements. Position Summary
Under limited supervision, supports and coordinates research studies in accordance with study protocols, regulatory requirements, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and applicable federal regulations. Serves as a key resource for investigators, study participants, sponsors, and clinical teams by facilitating study operations, participant recruitment, data collection, specimen processing, and regulatory compliance. Ensures research activities are conducted accurately, safely, and efficiently while maintaining high standards for data quality, participant care, and protocol adherence. May coordinate low to moderately complex research projects and provide mentorship to junior team members.
Regulatory Compliance & Documentation
- Maintains thorough knowledge of research protocols, regulatory requirements, and study procedures to ensure compliance and data integrity.
- Assists with preparation and maintenance of regulatory documents, submissions, and study records.
- Monitors, documents, and reports adverse events, protocol deviations, and other study-related incidents under investigator oversight.
- Ensures study documentation is complete, accurate, and maintained according to institutional policies, regulatory standards, and quality control procedures.
- Participates in study audits and inspections, supporting responses and corrective action plans as needed.
Participant Recruitment & Engagement
- Supports recruitment, screening, enrollment, and retention of research participants.
- Coordinates participant interactions throughout the research lifecycle, including scheduling visits, obtaining informed consent, collecting study data, and maintaining ongoing communication.
- Implements recruitment strategies and collaborates with clinical staff to support study enrollment goals.
- Assesses participant eligibility according to protocol requirements and ensures compliance with informed consent procedures.
- Serves as a primary point of contact for study participants and assists with participant incentive tracking and distribution.
Clinical Research Operations
- Collects, processes, and manages biological and environmental specimens, including blood, urine, and other protocol-required samples.
- Completes study documentation, surveys, case report forms, and data entry within established timelines.
- Supports patient safety by monitoring participant progress and communicating protocol-related information to investigators and clinical teams.
- Assists with interpretation and management of study data under investigator supervision.
- Coordinates centralized study activities involving departments such as radiology, pathology, cardiology, and laboratory services.
Study & Project Coordination
- Organizes and maintains study files, regulatory binders, source documents, and study databases.
- Coordinates study activities among investigators, sponsors, regulatory agencies, clinical staff, and research participants.
- Participates in investigator meetings and communicates key study updates to project stakeholders.
- Provides training, onboarding, and mentorship to new research staff and junior team members.
- Assists with sponsor communications and supports study implementation, monitoring visits, and project milestones.
Research Support & Data Management
- Develops expertise in assigned research areas and remains current on evolving research regulations and industry best practices.
- Maintains research databases and ensures accuracy and completeness of key study data.
- Supports quality assurance initiatives and process improvements to optimize research operations.
- Assists investigators with methodological, technical, and operational aspects of study conduct.
- Promotes compliance with institutional policies, federal regulations, and ethical research practices.
Option 1
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Six (6) years of work experience, including at least four (4) years of research and/or healthcare experience.
Option 2
- Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline, Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, Public Health, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience coordinating clinical, translational, or observational research studies.
- Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP), FDA regulations, and human subject protections.
- Experience with participant recruitment, informed consent, specimen collection, and clinical data management.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working with research databases, electronic data capture systems, and regulatory documentation.
