What You’ll Do:Â
As a Government Affairs Executive, you will serve as the expert and liaison for our organization, supporting the views and interests of the organization. You will do this by… Â
Developing and implementing strategic and advocacy plans for achieving public policy, legislative, and regulatory results in an assigned state and local market that are favorable to the organization and consistent with the overall legislative strategy.Â
Developing, motivating, and maintaining relationships with legislators, regulators, and trade associations to promote the organization's point of view and establish Sentry as a resource on insurance matters.Â
Recommending and managing outside consultants and lobbyists, including setting objectives, defining missions, and evaluating performance to help move efforts forward.Â
Communicating relevant and timely information to appropriate internal stakeholders and executives within Sentry and outside of Sentry.
Acting as a company representative before state policymakers, regulators, and tradeassociations.Â
What it Takes:Â
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience Required, with an advanced degree (MBA, JD) being desiredÂ
Minimum five years of related work experience, 7-10 years of related experience is preferredÂ
Experience in a State DOI, and NAIC, or regulatory agency dealing with insurance financial services, state legislator or political campaign, think-tank public policy organization or trade association, corporate government relations department especially in the financial services industryÂ
Ability to be a registered lobbyist in priority statesÂ
Familiarity with workers compensation and/or personal auto regulations/complianceÂ
Familiarity with state and federal ethics and election lawsÂ
Excellent communications and influencing skills, including strong written and verbal presentation skillsÂ
Strong composure skills including the ability to work calmly and effectively in high stress situationsÂ
Quick analytical thinker, who was able to effectively synthesize, translate, and summarize complex policy topics for use by internal and external stakeholdersÂ
Exceptional attention to detail and proven ability to self-direct workÂ
