What’s the role?

As Today’sBackend Developer (DevSecOps), you’ll design, implement and maintain the backend foundations of our client work — from APIs and integrations through to cloud infrastructure, security operations, and deployment workflows.

We build scalable digital products and experiences for our client partners. Our work often includes:

setting up greenfield cloud environments
integrating into existing platforms and ecosystems
contributing to delivery across multiple projects at once

This is afast-paced agency environment (not a product role) and success relies on being practical, collaborative, and highly accountable.

Just as importantly:you’ll work directly with clients. You’ll be expected to communicate clearly, explain trade-offs, navigate ambiguity, and solve problems alongside clients with care and confidence.

You’ll spend your time doing things like:

Designing, developing and maintaining backend systems, APIs, and integrations
Building and maintaining middleware and integration solutions across platforms
Contributing to DevSecOps practices that uplift reliability, security, and delivery speed
Implementing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows
Supporting cloud and infrastructure work (AWS, Vercel, Azure, GCP and others)
Working on systems development and integration projects (CMS, CRM, databases)
Troubleshooting and resolving production issues calmly and efficiently
Improving engineering practices through patterns, documentation and shared learning
Participating in team rituals and initiatives (meets, working groups, learning culture)

People who we’d love to work with

You’ve done this kind of work before:

You have 2–3+ years experience as a backend developer in a similar environment
You’ve delivered web projects end-to-end (not just product-only work)
You’re comfortable in a multi-project environment where priorities shift and teamwork matters

You have strong backend fundamentals

API development
Integration work
Database design and management
…and you build systems that are maintainable, secure and practical.

You have real cloud / DevSecOps capability

Experience with cloud platforms and services (AWS preferred, Azure welcome)
Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) (Terraform, CloudFormation, Pulumi, etc.)
Practical secure engineering / DevSecOps knowledge (the kind that shows up in decisions not just checklists)
Experience with automation and CI/CD pipelines

Full time, permanent
Naarm (Melbourne) based role
Hybrid, with an expectation that the majority of your week is in-studio
You must be legally able to work in Australia without restrictions
