Tech description:

The core of our product is our Enrichment API. We accept low quality banking/credit card data and return it in an organized and usable form with as much enrichment as possible. That means extracting the merchant names, finding a logo or graphic, locating the shop's address, purchase categorization (e.g. cafe, gym, ATM), finding websites, phone numbers, ownership information, etc. etc. etc. We try to aggregate as many fruitful data sources as possible to provide a complete picture of a transaction. After cleaning and organizing the transactions there are countless more insights to be derived from the clean data, and we are developing more products to utilize that data. We are searching for **backend engineers** to improve our enrichment engine, to integrate with new data sources, and develop robust infrastructure. We're looking for people who want to work on interesting projects involving the following. - API Design - Data Engineering - Robust Infrastructure - Self Refining Systems - Data Science Machine learning is at the root of our enrichment engine, the output of which is the basis for further enrichment. We're looking for **ML engineers**, particularly those who have experience in **NLP**, to develop novel models and provide a deeper understanding of a transaction. #### Current Tech Stack: #### - AWS Serverless - Postgres - Python & Django - PySpark - Proprietary NLP models

### **What is Spade?** Financial institutions process billions of transactions every day across cards, ACH, wires, and third party aggregators. But most of that data is difficult to use. Descriptions are inconsistent, merchant names don’t match, and categories vary by payment type. We value empathy, curiosity, and passion, and strive to create an environment where individuals have autonomy and the ability to take ownership over their work. ### **What will you be doing?** As Spade’s first finance hire, you will help build the financial foundation for our next stage of growth. You’ll run financial strategy, planning, and operations—from monthly close and cash management, to FP&A and strategic finance. Collaborating closely with the COO, CEO, and CRO, you'll act as a true thought partner to shape strategy, support key decisions with robust analysis, and drive business growth. * **Financial Planning & Analysis:** Develop budgets and forecasts, monitor budget vs. actuals, and build dashboards for key metrics (e.g. revenue growth, burn rate, GTM metrics, etc.). * **Accounting & Bookkeeping:** Own the monthly close process, partner with accounting firm to ensure our financial records are accurate and GAAP-compliant, and manage invoices, payables, and receivables. * **Cash Management:** Track cash runway and working capital. * **Strategic Partner:** Work closely with the CEO and COO on financial strategy and scenario planning. Provide analysis to support major decisions (pricing, hiring, market expansion) and challenge assumptions with data. * **Operational Build-out:** Implement finance tools/software as needed. Establish internal controls and financial policies to enable scalable growth. * **Investor & Board Reporting:** Prepare monthly/quarterly financial reports for our board and investors. Support future fundraising by owning data room prep, due diligence requests, etc. ### **What experience, skills, and qualifications are necessary?** * 5+ years of experience in a finance role * 2+ years of experience in-house at a high growth B2B startup * Deep understanding of key SaaS/usage based business metrics * Familiarity with usage-based or consumption pricing models and their implications for revenue recognition and forecasting * Generalist finance skillset (foundational accounting and bookkeeping knowledge, strong FP&A skills, advanced financial modeling skills) * Experience supporting a fundraising process — data room prep, investor diligence, financial narrative * Strong strategic partnership skills and comfort working with / presenting to leadership * Based in NYC with ability to work out of our Flatiron office at least 2 days/week ### **Nice to Have:** * Fintech experience * Strong preference for candidates with a background in investment banking, private equity, or management consulting ### **Why join Spade?** * Be a cultural founder.
