About Rivet

Rivet provides simple, open-source tools so anyone can deploy & scale their multiplayer game in minutes — from hobby projects to AAA titles. We believe game developers should focus on building their multiplayer games, not their infrastructure.

Our team has been building video games for most of our lives, and we love the community of gamers & developers. There is something magical about launching immersive multiplayer worlds that people can jump into and play — those moments have been the most exciting for us, so we want to help developers launch their creations just as easily and smoothly.

Rivet is a seed-stage company with an office in San Francisco, backed by Y Combinator and other venture capital groups. Rivet launched early in January 2023 with our private beta and is already default alive. About the role

Requirements

Location: Preferably San Francisco or North America. We are open to other locations for exceptional talent.
Rustacean: Rivet uses Rust in everything from our backend to our game engine plugins to our infrastructure tooling. If you are missing experience with Rust, you have worked with Go or C++.
Always learning: You’ll be using Rust on the backend, but frequently jumping between Unity (C#), Godot (GDScript), Unreal Engine (C++), and JavaScript for our integrations & supporting developers. You’ll be expected to learn these tools on the fly & understand the nuances of each engine’s workflows.
Skilled duct tape engineer: Rivet is constantly trying new things, but uptime & scalability is critical to our users. Must be able to ship quickly while maintaining reliability/scalability guarantees. Know what type of technical debt is acceptable in the short term.
Swiss Army Knife: All engineers at Rivet are expected to handle community support, manage relationships with developers, build intuitive user experiences, and write technical + product blog posts. Working directly with the people you’re building for is vital to developing a great product.
Values developer experience: Rivet takes a design-first approach to building high-quality developer experiences to make complex problems as simple as possible for developers. Expected to be able to build cohesive user experiences, communicate through documentation, and use Figma to prototype ideas.
