## 1. Mission > Own and enhance Presti’s SaaS performance (better speed) and reliability (less bugs) by tackling real-world production issues—bugs, bottlenecks, and infrastructure gaps—in a pragmatic, results-focused manner that directly improves the user experience. --- ## 2. Outcomes 1. **Conduct a Comprehensive Performance & Reliability Audit** * **Timeline**: Within the engineer’s first week at Presti. * **Deliverable**: A clear, prioritized audit of existing bugs, performance bottlenecks (including GPU cold starts, large file uploads, and external API dependencies), and infrastructure gaps. * **Focus**: Practical, actionable recommendations for addressing each issue—no “idealized” or purely theoretical solutions. 2. **Optimize Performance & Scalability** * Focus on _the most impactful fixes_ first. * Collaborate with the existing front-end engineer to tackle user-facing slowdowns or bottlenecks that matter most. * Keep solutions simple and iterative—avoid “perfect” but overly complex architecture changes. 3. **Establish Robust Monitoring & Alerting** * Set up a straightforward but effective alerting system for critical endpoints and API providers. * Ensure the team can swiftly respond to downtime or performance dips, with real-time notifications. * Keep the solution lean, focusing on coverage of key pain points over feature-rich (but potentially excessive) tooling. 4. **Implement Comprehensive Analytics for Bugs & Performance** * Deploy or integrate tools (logging, error-tracking, dashboards) that are **appropriate** for your current scale. * Provide actionable insights so the team can quickly triage bugs and measure improvements over time. * Avoid “over-building” advanced analytics that won’t be used regularly. 5. **Own DevOps & Infrastructure** * Manage cloud environments (e.g., provisioning GPU instances, handling cold starts) with an eye toward cost-effective, scalable solutions. * Build or refine deployment pipelines that are easy to maintain, without unnecessary complexity. * Document essential processes so the small team can operate independently if needed. --- ## 3. Competencies 1. **Technical Expertise** * **Full-Stack Proficiency**: Solid hands-on experience with Next.js, TypeScript, and Python. * **DevOps & Cloud**: Comfortable designing, deploying, and maintaining infrastructure. Familiarity with GCP is helpful but doesn’t need to be “architect-level.” * **Monitoring & Analytics**: Skilled at integrating lightweight tools for logs, metrics, and alerts that deliver clear, actionable information. 2. **Pragmatism & Results Orientation** * **Practical Problem-Solving**: Makes decisions based on actual constraints (time, resources, user impact) rather than chasing the “cleanest” solution for its own sake. * **Cost-Benefit Mindset**: Evaluates trade-offs between complexity, performance, reliability, and future maintainability—aiming for balanced, incremental gains. * **Bias for Action**: Prefers to implement testable, iterative improvements over extensive up-front design. 3. **Collaboration & Communication** * **Team Alignment**: Works closely with the existing front-end engineer, product team, or any other stakeholders to identify the most critical pain points. * **Transparent Reporting**: Regularly shares updates, insights, and trade-offs so non-technical team members understand the approach. * **Knowledge Transfer**: Documents how improvements were made, ensuring the team can maintain and build upon each solution. 4. **Cultural Fit** * **User-Centric Mindset**: Recognizes that real user satisfaction matters more than theoretical code elegance. * **Adaptability**: Thrives in a dynamic, small-team environment—ready to pivot when new issues arise. * **Accountability**: Owns outcomes, learns from mistakes, and iterates quickly to achieve tangible impact.
