JOB DESCRIPTION

General Overview

To be responsible for all matters relating to packaging, primarily but not exclusively for corrugated converters; leading on a wide range of public, regulatory and food contact issues. Management of Corrugated Council and Packaging Regulatory Committee.

Location: The position is home based, with some travel to the CPI’s Swindon office, London, Brussels and within the UK as required.

Salary: £60,000 per annum plus benefits

Reporting to: Executive Director – Sustainable Products

Key responsibilities:

Monitor legislative and regulatory activity at Defra, the devolved administrations and EU Commission Regulations. Report such activity to Corrugated council, devise and agree positions and undertake lobbying as required.
Respond to UK Government and EU enquiries and public consultations, promoting the interests of the industry and the benefits of packaging wherever possible.
Management of Corrugated Council: comprising CEOs from the Corrugated converter Member companies; administration of Board meetings, preparation of all associated papers and implementation of Board decisions.
Management of the Packaging Regulatory Committee, made up of the technical and regulatory leads from CPI Packaging membership and work closely with the Chair of the Corrugated Council.
Maintain close contact with Corrugated Council and Packaging Regulatory Committee members to retain and build their confidence in CPI to represent their interests effectively.
Engage with prospective Member organisations to ensure services are in line with requirements, and to bring new companies into Membership.
Industry liaison with the wider packaging sector and other industry trade associations to promote the benefits of packaging. Co-ordination and lead of ‘Paper Packaging Forum’ (PPF) to unite UK paper packaging Trade Associations.
Involvement with the European Federation of Corrugated Board Manufacturers (FEFCO) as appropriate on relevant committees as a technical expert.
Standards work: participation in the BSI lead committee on Packaging (PKW/0), identification and oversight of key matters for paper industry and subsidiary committees as required.
Work closely with colleagues of the Sustainable Products Team and with other CPI colleagues on cross sectoral issues.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Our Ideal Candidate will have:

Experience within a trade association or in a similar organisation/role.
Experience with regulatory matters, preferably in the packaging industry
Experience of working with Boards and Committees.
Experience of public speaking.
Experience of working with Defra
Experience of working within European organisations
Successful track record of career achievement.
