Position Overview

Momentum Accounting is building a specialized Restoration Industry Advisory vertical focused on helping restoration businesses improve profitability, financial clarity, and operational performance.

We are seeking a Restoration Profitability Consultant with strong small business ($1m-$15m revenue) accounting manager, controller or “CFO lite” experience to work directly alongside our CEO to build and scale our advisory services in the restoration industry. This individual will combine deep accounting expertise with client-facing advisory, systems optimization, and financial leadership.

This is not a traditional controller role. It is a structured path into high-level advisory leadership within a niche industry vertical.

This is a hybrid of:

Accounting processes and financial reporting ownership
Profit and cash flow-focused advisory
Forecasting and budgeting
Systems and workflow optimization
Client education and leadership
Hands-on controller oversight first, then moving up to full advisory

The right candidate will grow into an advisory role within the restoration vertical and eventually lead client relationships independently.

Role Phases & Responsibilities

Phase 1 – Controller Ownership & Advisory Immersion (Months 0–6)

In this phase, you will operate as the primary controller for assigned restoration clients while immersing yourself in our advisory methodology.

Responsibilities

Serve as lead controller for restoration clients, including:

Month-end close ownership
WIP validation and revenue recognition accuracy
Job costing integrity
Gross profit analysis

Participate in onboarding of new restoration clients (led by our onboarding team), including:

Accounting infrastructure setup
Chart of accounts structure
KPI baseline development
Process standardization

Shadow the CEO in advisory meetings and profit discussions
Assist in preparing KPI dashboards and reporting packages
Assist with budgeting and forecasting
Train with third-party consultants on restoration workflows and best practices
Create internal SOPs and documentation, create IP
Ensure strong accounting architecture within QuickBooks Online and related app ecosystems

Primary Objective

Demonstrate strong controller ownership while learning and applying our restoration advisory framework.

Phase 2 – Advisory Co-Leadership (Months 6–12)

In this phase, you transition into a more active advisory role.

Responsibilities

Co-host monthly profit meetings with restoration clients
Present financial insights, margin diagnostics, and KPI trends
Identify profitability improvement opportunities
Analyze cash flow drivers and operational inefficiencies
Support light budgeting and forecasting
Train and mentor client bookkeeper staff
Mentor internal team members supporting restoration clients

Primary Objective

Operate as the primary controller-level advisor while increasingly leading financial conversations with clients.

Phase 3 – Lead Restoration Profit Advisor (12+ Months)

As experience and capability grow, you transition into leadership within the vertical.

Responsibilities

Independently lead client profit meetings
Serve as primary Restoration Profit Advisor for assigned portfolio
Own KPI strategy, margin optimization, and financial direction
Mentor junior team members within the restoration vertical
Contribute to restoration thought leadership and vertical growth

Primary Objective

Transition into the lead advisory role for restoration clients, enabling the CEO to step out of day-to-day advisory delivery.

PSA / Proven Accounting (restoration-specific workflows)
QuickBooks Online (primary general ledger platform)
Reach Reporting (KPI dashboards & management reporting)
BILL/Makers Hub – AP automation
Ramp / Divvy / Brex / Coast – expense management platforms
Gusto – payroll systems
Google Workspace (Gmail, Drive, Docs, etc.)
Google Sheets/Liveflow/ Retriever (advanced KPI tracking and financial modeling)

You should be comfortable:

Managing data flow across multiple integrated systems
Troubleshooting integrations
Designing clean workflows across app ecosystems

Creating structured reporting inside Google Sheets
Learning and mastering new platforms quickly

8–15+ years in restoration or construction accounting
Experience as:

Controller
Accounting Manager
Senior Accountant with full month-end ownership

Strong hands-on experience with:

Experience presenting financial results to business owners or leadership teams
