HVAC Technician II - $41.39 - $45.99/hr

HVAC Technician I Job Description

Under general supervision, this position performs work of low-to-moderate difficulty in skilled HVAC maintenance and repair work including programming digital control systems and troubleshooting building automation systems. All duties performed require providing excellent customer service to a wide variety of City staff to include prompt responses to requests along with the ability to use a variety of techniques to complete the work as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Incumbent is accountable for all duties of this job and other projects and responsibilities may be added at the City’s discretion. Employees must be able to perform the essential duties of this job with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Installs, operates monitors, inspects, maintains, and repairs heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and refrigeration systems throughout all City facilities. Systems include hydronic boilers and specific purpose air-conditioning systems.
Checks and monitors heating, ventilation, refrigeration and air-conditioning systems to ensure systems and controls are operating properly.
Checks piping and fittings for refrigerant leaks; checks air filters for cleanliness, checks operation of fans, dampers, louvers, and controls of air movement.
Maintains equipment including compressors, pumps, blowers, fans, copper tubing, heat exchange equipment, various types of valves, filters, driers, pressure control devices, and temperature, humidity, and air control devices.
Required to be part of the Emergency Building Maintenance on-call rotation to make emergency service calls after normal business hours as needed.
Utilizes the Cartegraph work order program and follows the necessary processes for proper operation of this program for assigned work orders.
Must maintain and utilize City-provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when conducting activities where the employee is exposed to risks above those encountered in a traditional office setting. If injured on-the-job due to failure to utilize PPE a safety violation can be taken.
May perform some minor building maintenance tasks as needed.
Requires regular and prompt attendance.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

Education: High school diploma or equivalent. HVAC classes or certifications preferred.

Experience: Three years of work experience involving HVAC maintenance and Building Automation Systems. Commercial work experience preferred.

Certification/Licenses/Specialized Training

Requires valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
Must possess or be able to acquire EPA refrigerant certifications in order to handle refrigerants and maintain records.
Must possess or be able to acquire within one year, a CFC license.

HVAC Technician II Job Description

Under general supervision, this position performs work of moderate-to-advanced difficulty in skilled HVAC maintenance and repair work primarily with installation and programming of digital control systems, building automation systems and troubleshooting systems. All duties performed require providing excellent customer service to a wide variety of City staff to include prompt responses to requests along with the ability to use a variety of techniques to complete the work as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Tests and treats water in closed heating and cooling systems and water-cooled condensers to control deposits of solids and algae. Controls refrigerant inventory and maintains logs of consumption.
Installs, maintains, replaces and adjusts compressors, pumps, blowers, fans, copper tubing, heat exchange equipment, various types of valves, filters, driers, pressure control devices, temperature, humidity, and air control devices.
Obtains bids on equipment replacement and works with the Building Operations Supervisor on purchasing of items.
Oversees the work of contractors working on HVAC-related projects.
Working with Building Operations Supervisor, identifies HVAC-related maintenance needs and makes recommendations for repair and replacement.

Familiar with pneumatic and electronic temperature controls in order to assist with daily site operations. Must be able to program, view, and acknowledge system alarms.
Proficient computer skills with ability to prepare reports and maintain logs. Must be able to design and construct operator-friendly graphic interfaces with HVAC Building Automation systems, add links from site and floor plans to each piece of equipment, and display, save, and export system performance data.
Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and control schematics in order to troubleshoot and repair equipment.
Must be familiar with HVAC Building Automation software, building custom graphic interfaces, data logging and trend sheets, and protocol interfaces.

Education and Experience
