We are looking for a Software Engineer to lead the development of a platform to empower investors and technology companies to achieve their climate and social goals.

This is a great opportunity to apply your engineering expertise in an up-and-coming startup in climate tech. As a Software Engineer, you will have an instrumental role in defining and building the first product from concept to implementation. NYC preferred location, but open to remote.

The problem that we are solving is that investors (LPs and GPs), governments, and a whole new generation of consumers are increasingly asking if their capital is building the world that they want to see:Are our investments helping solve our climate crisis? What's the diversity of the leadership of our portfolio companies? Are there any practices within the companies that are not responsible?

Starting with venture capital investors, the platform measures the ESG and impact performance of a portfolio of companies, while extracting insights on both individual companies and an aggregated portfolio, making the results easy to share with LPs and other stakeholders. The platform is framework agnostic (SFDR, UN PRI, UN SDGs, Net Zero, SASB, etc), but it has a set of data that is uniform throughout to be able to set benchmarks and compare metrics.

Capital is the ultimate lever for change. Kara aims to be the ESG data clearinghouse for all capital invested. We'd love for you to join us.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and own new product functionality and/or infrastructure leveraging modern frameworks and tooling (most likely TypeScript, React, Node.js, Golang). Prior experience with these technologies is not necessary.
Deeply understand our customers and our market to build solutions addressing key pain points and opportunities for competitive advantage.
Work with other engineers and product managers to make a significant impact on our customer base, enabling them to improve their environmental and social impact.
Contribute to building Kara’s engineering culture as we grow.

Proven experience as Software Engineer in a high-performing software company.
Have at least 2 years of professional experience as a software engineer — although we’re hiring at all levels of experience!
Sensibility towards product, customer insights, and MVP definition
BSc/BA in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field; MBA or other relevant graduate degree is a plus
Based primarily out of New York City (preferred, but not exclusive)
