Job Description Summary

The Back End Software Engineer II translates business requirements into resilient and high-performance data stores and modular business logic while providing programmatic access to these technologies with REST APIs, database queries, and libraries. This position is also responsible for integrating disparate systems and data stores as necessary.

This position is remote 90% of the time, and candidates must be willing to work onsite as needed.

Job Description

Essential Job Functions

Design, develop, and support back end software, including but not limited to REST APIs, databases, and libraries on a consistent, predictable cadence.
Use requirements to accurately and consistently create and maintain technical design documents, collaborating with stakeholders and team members as necessary, to guide engineering sprints.
Leverage knowledge of design patterns, data structures, and algorithms, to ensure the modularity, maintainability, security, and performance of back end software.
Use Domain Driven Design principals to translate business requirements into a cohesive, modular, maintainable, and extensible code base.
Leverage specialized knowledge within one or more areas of the back end domain as well as FVTC organizational functions in order to efficiently solve technical obstacles.
Apply database design principals to ensure data consistency, reliability, and reduced redundancy.
Design, engineer, and support applications that integrate disparate systems using API Clients and OpenAPI.
Apply Agile software development concepts in a team environment to continuously deliver high-value software to stakeholders.
Collaborate with team members to establish standards and procedures, including but not limited to application and database server configuration, CI/CD, and database query and index optimization.

Secondary Job Functions

Participate in front end software engineering efforts as needed.
Research new and emerging technologies to ensure a modern engineering stack.
Monitor software for bugs and other deficiencies and resolve priority issues.
Configure production and development web servers using IIS.

Qualifications, Training, and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree with an emphasis on software engineering, AND
4-6 years of professional experience in a Back End Software Engineer role, or equivalent role, AND
Advanced skills with Domain Driven Design, UML, database schema design and development, AND
Advanced skills with Visual Studio, SQL Server Management Studio, LDAP, Azure, .NET, C#, T-SQL, Web Services and APIs, AND
Professional experience with distributed and centralized source control systems.
