Job Description:

PURPOSE

The Sr. Project Controls Manager provides team level leadership over the Project Controls function, consisting of the operational excellence pillars of Project Scheduling and Cost Control. This includes the strategic leadership, operational management, and continuous development of Scheduling and Cost Control Professionals.

This role will participate in the strategy design and deployment of Business Unit (BU) and enterprise direction in collaboration with senior leaders, including: Business Unit Leader(s) (BUL), Market Sector Captains, Data Center (DC) Campus Leads, and other Enterprise Leaders.

A successful Sr. Project Controls Manager is a self-directed leader who can “zoom out” to a higher level within a BU or across the organization. They can self-determine when it is necessary to zoom down to a project level. Sr. Project Controls Manager must have a strategic thinking mindset that informs smart actions and decision-making. They must be able to relate to and effectively communicate and lead up with many leaders and roles across the company, as well as with external parties.

Responsibilities of a Sr. Project Controls Manager include, but are not limited to, the following:

RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategize, develop, communicate, educate, and execute a project controls program that is scalable across the entire business, provides a competitive advantage and true value to our clients, and adds true value to our projects and project teams.
Lead the staff resourcing and allocation for schedulers and cost control professionals across the business.
Collaborate with and meet frequently with BUL’s and other key leaders.
Support the BUL(s) in annual BU level business planning and the execution of the plan throughout the year.
Collaborate with other functional ops leaders and teams as well as Shared Services team leaders to ensure that project teams draw upon their support when needed.
Support formulation and execution of business and company level talent acquisition strategy, as it pertains to Project Controls. Continuously identify and assess potential new employee candidates and provide referrals to talent managers and/or BUL(s). Participate in candidate interviews.
Be a Team Lead for key Project Controls personnel responsible for employee development, mentorship, compensation adjustment recommendation, performance reviews and support development planning formulation and execution.
Identify areas of “Operational Drift” and opportunities to improve processes and procedures, means and methods, sequencing, and/or safety protocols across the projects utilizing internal metrics such as A+, safety metrics, other KPIs.
Conduct monthly check-ins, at a minimum, with direct reports on their development and progress
Develop, maintain, and evolve the best practices and operational standards (or “Fortis Way”) relative to how our operational teams and individuals manage schedule and cost control in consistent manner across the business
develop and deliver strategy, content, and implementation of scheduling and cost control training and development curriculum, including content creation and leading presentations of material.
Develop and administer executive level reporting that measures the “health” and success of Project Controls across the organization
Partner and collaborate with Technology Team to continuously manage software stack relating to the business needs based on client and project portfolio, as well as maintaining competitive edge in the marketplace
Partner and collaborate with Corporate Risk Team and Risk Manager regarding proactive risk mitigation strategies relative to Project Controls, as well as addressing early indication of operation drift in terms of schedule management or cost control on any given project, market sector, or business unit.
Inform and advise business unit leaders, market sector captains, and/or project leadership teams of any apparent risk pertaining to cost exposures or schedule risk

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

15+ years of construction experience in a variety of sectors and a successful track record working with Project Scheduling and/or Cost Control.
5+ years of supervisory experience, leading functional teams including Scheduling and/or Cost Control
Familiar with and proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Excel/Project/Word/Outlook).
Proficiency with scheduling software platforms, such as MS Project, Primavera P6.
Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential in all areas of interaction, with strong use of English language.
Solution oriented and resolves issues with project teams timely and effectively.
Seasoned in multiple construction types (i.e., Tenant Improvements, core and shell buildings, medical facilities, data centers, etc.).
Considered satisfactory or above in comparison to all Fortis Effective Leadership Competencies
Must possess a valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record in accordance with Fortis policy.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Ability to read and/or speak alternative languages (i.e., Spanish) is not required, but is beneficial.

PHYSICALREQUIREMENTS

Work is primarily to be performed in a traditional office space environment and/or at various project sites as the business needs dictate. Utilize standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, etc. Communication with internal and external contacts, including speaking and hearing.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Travel to remote jobsites and/or other Fortis regional offices will be necessary on a frequent, but inconsistent basis. Assume 1-2 trips per month as an annual average, or equating to approximately 25% of a typical month traveling to regional offices and/or remote project sites.
