## **About Conduit** Conduit is the operating system for shipping and receiving — software that systemizes the planning and execution of work on the loading dock and in the yard. This is one of the most important hires at Conduit right now, and an incredible opportunity for someone who wants broad ownership and to move fast with zero bureaucracy. What makes this role different is how you'll work. You'll be AI-first in every sense. You'll prototype faster than most engineers can write a ticket. You'll use AI to analyze operational data, accelerate customer discovery, and move at a level of speed and breadth that would have been impossible two years ago. We'll give you access to every tool you need, and we'll expect you to push the limits of what one engineer can ship. In a given week you might go from a customer call with a warehouse manager, to whiteboarding architecture with the CTO, to proposing and shipping a feature end-to-end, to visiting a 3PL site to watch your code run in production the next morning. Most engineering roles make you pick a lane. This one asks you to cover more ground, stay organized, and be ambitious about your output. You'll work directly with the CEO, CTO, Head of Product, and founding engineer. ## **What You'll Own** **Ship features end-to-end.** Backend, frontend, the API layer, the rough edges. You'll own features from initial customer insight through launch and adoption. **Build the AI layer.** Our system of record is the data foundation. The AI workflows on top are the next frontier. You'll build agents and features on top of structured operational data that doesn't exist anywhere else. **Talk to customers directly.** You’ll sit in on strategic discovery calls, complicated onboardings, and brainstorm sessions, plus the occasional visit to a loading dock. You'll develop an independent point of view on what operators actually need, and your code will reflect that understanding. **Make product decisions without layers of approval.** You'll have real judgment calls to make every week, and we trust you to make them. If you wait for a PRD before writing code, this isn't the job. **Shape the technical foundation.** Architecture, tooling, deployment, how we scale the team. Our stack is Python, Django, Svelte, and Postgres. You'll have a major voice in future technology choices. **Help set the culture.** You're one of the first software engineers. How this team works in two years is largely what you make it now. ## **Who You Are** You may have been a founder. Maybe you've been an early engineer at a few startups and you're ready to take on more ownership. Maybe you've been at a big company and you're ready to ship at 10x the speed. Whatever the path: **You're product-minded.** You care about whether the thing works for the user, not just whether it ships. You've designed UI yourself when speed mattered. You've pushed back on product decisions when you thought they were wrong. **You're a clear communicator.** Whether it's a design doc, a PR description, a customer-facing release note, or a Slack message, your thinking is organized and your writing is strong. **You're not afraid of hard work in any direction.** Customer calls in the morning. A big migration after lunch. A prototype by the end of day. None of it is beneath you. **You push through walls.** When something is stuck you don't wait for someone else to fix it. **You're ambitious about your own output.** You want to ship more things with more impact than people think one engineer can. The tools exist to make that possible now, and you're excited about that. **You're an AI power user (or want to be).** You are already in Claude Code, Codex, or similar tools. You are constantly exploring how AI can help you prototype, analyze data, and move at a speed that surprises people. You believe the best engineers in the future will spend their time in fundamentally different ways from the best engineers of the last decade, and you want to be at the front of the pack. **You're a team player.** You make the people around you better. You don't optimize for your own visibility. ## **Experience Requirements** - 5+ years or equivalent shipping production software, with meaningful time at an early-stage startup - You've built customer-facing software end-to-end - You've worked in environments where you had to figure out the process, not follow one ## **What would make us especially excited** - You've been a founder, even if it didn't work out - You've built or shaped AI-powered product features, as well as built the foundation to capture and structure the data that can enable them. - Experience in workflow technology and/or software for the physical world ## **Who This Isn't For** This role may not be the best fit for someone who prefers working from clearly defined specs and a fully scoped backlog. Our work often starts with ambiguity, and engineers are expected to help shape what gets built as much as they build it. It’s also not a role where engineering happens exclusively within the product or codebase. The work includes talking directly with customers, running onboarding sessions, and spending time in warehouses to understand real-world workflows.
