About the role

As a QA Engineer on our team, you'll test both backend API services and frontend web clients through a mix of automation and manual testing. You'll help us continue developing our CI/CD capabilities and pioneer strategies for reducing manual testing load. For us, "quality" means attention to detail, correctness, and strong error handling and recovery. You'll be embedded within a fully remote engineering team working on an e-commerce platform, working closely with developers to shape our testing strategy. We're open to candidates from mid-level through senior — the key trait we're looking for is someone who takes initiative to identify gaps and build solutions rather than waiting to be told what to test.

Responsibilities

Design and build automated test suites for APIs and backend services (functional, regression, integration)
Design and build browser automation tests for frontend client applications (e.g., using Playwright or Cypress)
Work with engineers to define test strategy and acceptance criteria before features ship
Propose and drive adoption of new testing practices and tooling, not just executing existing plans
Improve test coverage and reduce manual QA load over time through CI/CD improvements
Collaborate closely with developers to identify edge cases and failure modes early in the development cycle
Generate test plans based on ticket acceptance criteria
Verify successful production releases

Must have:

Experience writing automated tests for both backend services and frontend web applications, including hands-on experience with a browser automation framework (Playwright, Cypress, or Selenium)
Comfort reading and writing code for Node/JS/TS applications
Strong debugging and root-cause investigation skills
Experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitHub Actions)
Willingness to use AI tooling

Nice to have:

Experience using AI tools for test generation, code review, or debugging workflows
