Candidate Profile

Our Abaca team within Village Capital is looking for a Senior Full-Stack Developer to join our team as the first member of the new engineering team and play a critical role in leading the transition from external development partner company to building and growing an internal development team within Abaca.

The Senior Full-Stack Developer will be a key member of the Abaca team and will have the following responsibilities:

Independent Engineering: As the lead developer within the Abaca team, you will independently lead the development and implementation of software solutions, write codes from scratch for the front and back end of the website, run tests and ensure systems and software are working properly.
Technical Process Development, Documentation & Communication: As the lead developer, you will have an expert understanding of all technical concepts of the product and adept at developing and documenting standard operating procedures for record keeping and continuity purposes. This will include creating, documenting and maintaining source codes, tools and all pertinent infrastructure information.
Team Support: As we continue to grow our team and operations, you will be responsible for supporting the development and growth of your team members by supervising, mentoring and coaching.
Troubleshooting: You will be the main point of contact for troubleshooting, fixing and debugging Abaca. This also includes running regular tests and updates to keep the software intact and run smooth.
Data Security: As part of your role, you will be developing and implementing data security protocols and settings to ensure the protection and integrity of the information gathered through Abaca. This will include establishing access controls, encryption methods, and data backup procedures and monitoring systems for security breaches or vulnerabilities and taking corrective actions when needed.
Quality Assurance: Together with the other internal and external stakeholders, you will implement and maintain robust quality assurance processes to ensure that all software solutions meet defined quality standards. This will include technical supervision of a part-time QA engineer.
Guidance & Mentoring: You will provide guidance and support to Village Capital team members to assist them with technical challenges as the most senior developer in-house, and mentor future developers who will be onboarded to the Abaca team.
Measurement & Reporting: You understand the requirements and needs of both internal and external stakeholders, and lead in documenting, measuring and reporting on KPIs
Village Capital Culture Building & Community Stewardship: You will be an active participant in Village Capital’s participatory governance system to promote and embody the principles of transparency, inclusion and equity and perform other duties as assigned.

Continuous Learning and Development: You will keep abreast of the latest trends and technologies in software development, particularly those relevant to Abaca's objectives by proactively researching and evaluating new tools, frameworks, and methodologies that can enhance Abaca's development and competitiveness and sharing insights and recommendations with the team to drive innovation and continuous improvement.

Essential

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or other related fields, or a combination of related experience and skill sets.
5 years of experience as either front or back end engineering experience with at least 3 as a Full-Stack Engineer or relevant experience.
Proficiency with HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript.
Experience with back-end languages and frameworks, specifically Python and Django REST Framework.
Proficiency with relational databases, preferably with PostgreSQL.
Experience designing and implementing databases and APIs.
Experience implementing medium-complexity user interfaces and integrating them with different APIs and web services (RESTful, JSON).
Experience planning and projecting software architecture and infrastructure.
Solid knowledge of CI/CD pipelines.
Familiarity with hosting solutions such as Heroku or AWS.
Experience with web security (HTTPS, CORS, OWASP).
Familiarity with containerization platforms, preferably Docker.
Familiarity with version control systems such as Git.
Strong oral and written communication skills (English)
