JOB SUMMARY

The Insurance Verification Specialist works under the supervision of the Insurance Authorization and Verification Manager. The primary functions of this position are to obtain patient eligibility information and verify insurance coverage, document eligibilities in the patient management system, communicate with co-workers and patients regarding covered services and perform re-verifications as assigned. Performs other appropriate duties as assigned.

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES

1. Obtains patient eligibility information and verifies insurance coverage for services.

2. Processes information and generates timely and accurate documentation in the patient management system.

3. Serves as a resource for staff and patients regarding covered services.

4. Obtains authorization for services when required by payer.

5. Demonstrates the ability to use time effectively and prioritize assigned duties.

6. Ensures the safety of staff and visitors by adhering to and promoting safety and injury prevention measures in the workplace setting.

7. Effectively manages personal work schedule so that the agency operations are uninterrupted.

8. Maintains an appropriate standard of appearance that conforms to agency dress code.

9. Demonstrates positive interpersonal relations in dealing with all members of the organization.

10. Maintains confidentiality.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

1. Education: High school graduation.

2. LicensureICertification: None.

3. Experience: Working knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures used within administrative support. 2-4 years experience in the field or related area.

4. Essential Technical Skills: Working knowledge of MS Office including Word, Excel, Microsoft Outlook, typing of 55 wpm and basic phone skills. Demonstrated knowledge of third party payors and requirements for reimbursement.

5. Interpersonal Skills: Teamwork and communication skills essential.

6. Essential Physical Requirements: Varied periods of sitting or standing, walking, lifting and carrying files, reaching, stooping, long periods of data entry.

7. Essential Mental Requirements: Ability to concentrate with frequent interruption, handle pressure of deadlines, good judgment, ability to follow procedures, ability to work independently. Demonstrated ability to interact with diverse groups of people and to quickly change priorities as needed.

8. Essential sensory requirements: Visual acuity, touch, hearing.

9. Exposure to Hazards: Office environment, toner for office machines, pitch of printers and computers.

10. Other- Hours of Work: Minimum 40 hours week, 8:30 am-5:30pm, Monday through Friday. Overtime maybe required during peak workloads or increase in volume. Fully Remote. Must reside in North Carolina or South Carolina.
